I collaborated with Injiri, a brand by Chinar Farooqui that celebrates traditional hand-weaving and craftsmanship, to create a special collection that blends heritage techniques with a contemporary sensibility.
Drawing inspiration from vintage textiles housed in the V&A and The Met, I developed a range of garments using zardozi, gota, and mukaish work. The collection reinterprets classic silhouettes — jamas, angarkhas, and tunics — highlighting bold borders, heavy yokes, and intricate metal embroideries.
In the first part of the project, I focused on Bandhani sarees inspired by Moroccan rug patterns, creating tie-dye and clamp-dye designs for the pallu and borders. The color palette and fabrics were selected for the Indian festive season, aligning with the brand’s aesthetic and target audience of middle-aged women.
The final concept shoot, with its theme of “fun and fabulous”, captured the garments’ flamboyance and a carefree, “devil-may-care” attitude, aligning with Injiri’s handcrafted heritage while presenting it for the modern consumer.
